The catalogue

Works

Twenty-eight concert works written between 1999 and 2023, plus a body of original music written to teach. Fourteen are published as performance scores. Ten have been performed live.

Dates are composition dates. Where a work has a published score it is marked. Scores are available here, and nine of them are also carried by Sheet Music Plus under my own imprint, UreMusic, with catalogue numbers, so any band director can buy them the usual way.

Music written to teach

Original compositions with a pedagogical purpose. They are different forms and I would rather keep them apart than pile them into one heap.

Etudes

Technique Builder: Etudes for Aural Training, Volume I. The Mirror Exercises are a numbered cycle, one per interval, running to twelve, from the Perfect Fifth through to the Minor Second. Technical etudes written for the inner ear rather than the fingers. The etude is an old compositional form and these sit inside it.

Pedagogical melodies

Eighty-four original melodies written for one-part dictation, each to a specified key, metre and length. Short, and built to be heard once and written down.

Character pieces for children

Baby Ear Training: Stage 1. Nineteen pieces, each built on a key and a character. C Major with Cat, G Minor with Giraffe, E Major with Elephant, B Minor with Bear, and the Adventures pieces that follow in D, F and A. The Friends Rondo is a rondo on C, E, G and B. Released as an album.

Long-form immersion pieces

Baby Ear Training: Immersion Audio. Seven pieces built on sustained key centres, running about an hour each. The Interval Meditations belong here too, six to ten minutes apiece, one per interval and several combining them.

Most of this is distributed through CDBaby and sits on the Kevin Ure Topic channel next to the concert albums.
